TRICK PONY at San Diego Comic-Con
Transmission from the calm beach before the convention storm!
Time does fly!
The TRICK PONY print launch was over a month ago already!!! But it’s been a delightful dream-like blur (kinda like the story itself within the graphic novel!)
I am writing this from the home of two good friends who are graciously hosting me before the official start of Comic-Con International in San Diego. This is the perfect start to the show!
Last night, I was lucky to be a part of a fabulous event that Ernie Estrella, Will Dennis, and the Comickaze team put together at Modern Times Brewery. It was the kick-off to a lot of people’s San Diego week and the vibes were immaculate!
We had a great panel about the creation process and then signed tons of comics!!! Everyone who bought tickets got copies of TRICK PONY (among the other creators’ comics, too!) and I was thrilled to sign. All the readers at the event were lovely and I had a bunch of great conversations.
I also signed copies for Comickaze to sell in the shop! If you’re in the San Diego area, please pick up a copy from them directly! It’s autographed already! And I believe you can order online here if you are long-distance but you might need a ComicHub profile…
Pat Loika took these amazing photos of the event below!

Tonight is Preview Night at SDCC!
I’ll start the show at the PRISM COMICS BOOTH (2144 in Hall C) from 6-7 pm. I will be signing copies of TRICK PONY, LIEBESTRASSE, DC PRIDE, or any other comics you want… including THE ODDLY PEDESTRIAN LIFE OF CHRISTOPHER CHAOS vol. 1 which I am solely the editor of but want people to discover!
Come find me and check out the amazing work done by the volunteers of Prism! There are a ton of books to sell there and you’ll find great LGBTQI+ creators and stories while helping one of the comic book industry’s most important non-profits.
My complete PRISM schedule:
WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 6 – 7 pm
THURSDAY, JULY 25, 3 – 4 pm
SATURDAY, JULY 27, 10 - 11 am
And Saturday evening, I am honored to be a part of the OUT IN COMICS panel!
Otherwise, I will be around the convention meeting/re-uniting/discovering as many creators as possible! My new role as Talent Manager for Tiny Onion is thrilling and gives me a chance to expand upon my favorite parts of the editor role on a much larger scale. Tiny Onion doesn’t have a booth this year but James and the entire team will be E V E R Y W H E R E… follow @readtinyonion on Instagram for all the updates!
And you can subscribe to the Tiny Onion newsletter here:
I remain very lucky and very grateful for the places my career has taken me recently and I’m really excited for the future in our industry and beyond!!!
I am going to send out more consistent newsletters (monthly) and include my thoughts on the creative process from the perspective of an editor/writer/talent manager and (hopefully) loop in more friends and colleagues.
When the dust settles from this epic SDCC and I catch up on all the wonderful projects I’m working on currently… I will write again!
Thanks for reading and hope all is well wherever you are in the world right now!
